Divisive politics in Washington are coming to a head. As each day passes, the right and left are beginning to look like Dumb and Dumber.
The President has only been in office for a little more than a year, yet some people have condemned him to failure. It takes time for substantial change to take place; it doesn’t happen overnight. I still have high hopes for President Obama, but I think he has bitten off way more than he can chew. The clock is ticking…
Perhaps the midterm elections will be a wake up call for both parties. The legislators need to stop being divisive and need to start working together to work toward a better, brighter America. People are hurting; American’s are struggling now, more than ever.
We need to figure out how to turn things around without inflating the already massive deficit. It is my generation and the generation after that will be saddled with the bill for this recovery and all of the fiscal irresponsibility that led to it. We need to exercise restraint when it comes to government spending. If we need to pass legislation, we need to make sure the costs will be covered. However, a bill that will help countless Americans across the country by extending the unemployment benefits is hardly the bill to stop. In an ideal world, we wouldn’t have to extend unemployment benefits, but we are still facing record unemployment rates. Senator Bunning might have been trying to prove a point, but he chose the wrong piece of legislation to use as a tool.
The healthcare debate is still going forward, but realistically, “How far can it go?”
If Congress submits the bill for an up or down vote, it will lose. They need to postpone the debate a little bit and redraft the bill using more of the ideas from the GOP. We desperately need an overhaul of the healthcare system, but we need to do it the right way.
Small businesses need more of a boost. We need to give some more tax breaks and incentives to small companies. This is where additional jobs will come from. There are many people who have good ideas for new businesses, and the banks are just not lending money. Maybe we should have let them all fail when we had the chance. We bailed them out to keep them afloat and now they are turning a blind eye to the people who need their help to get started. Shame!
Another thing that has really irked me as of late… The way that our Veterans are being treated. Secretary Shinseki needs to start rolling out a plan to take better care of our soldiers. Regardless of how you feel about war, these brave men and women deserve better. Our soldiers give their all and risk their lives, sometimes they even lose them, to defend our freedom, defend liberty, and ensure our prosperity. We send them off to the most hostile regions and we send them to assist in relief efforts around the world. Instead of being treated like heroes when they return, they are treated as a burden. We need to provide our men and women in uniform with better healthcare and support until they can assimilate to being back at home. There are not many things that are more heartbreaking and gut-wrenching than seeing our veterans homeless and cast aside.
Also on the subject of soldiers and veterans; Fred Phelps.
Fred Phelps is the lowest of the low. I believe in free-speech, but this SOB ought to be tarred and feathered. As an American, Fred Phelps has every right to believe what he wants and protest for whatever cause he believes. If he doesn’t believe in war; fine. If he doesn’t approve of homosexuality; fine. If he doesn’t believe in abortion; fine. Whatever the cause, he should be allowed to protest; except at funerals, especially those of our servicemen and women. This low-life, good for nothing, sack of flesh, pickets and protests at the funerals of soldiers who give their lives, with picket signs that read, “God hates Soldiers.” “God hates Fags.” And “Thank god for maimed soldiers.”
This man has absolutely no moral conscience. Our men and women in uniform deserve better; their families deserve better. How insensitive to the grief of a mourning family could you be? Fred Phelps is a cult-leading, hate-mongerer.
