Radical Homosexual Agenda!

OK.  So as the mid-term elections were gearing up, I received this email urging me not to vote for Harry Reid.  I received this letter on Oct. 31, while I was at church, and couldn't wait to get home to type my reply (which is below the original email).  Interestingly enough, when I emailed my reply, I "accidentally" hit reply- all.

Dear Concerned American,
Harry Reid is an enemy of traditional values.
He has repeatedly and with malice voted against the family and has become nothing but a pet of the Homosexual Lobby.
Harry Reid’s underhanded tactics made it possible for the unconstitutional and immoral Thought Control Bill to be snuck into law attached to the must-pass Defense Authorization Act.
And he plans to do the exact same thing with the Gay Bill of Special Rights.
Harry Reid is even coming up with a “Lame Duck” scheme to ram through the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
Never has the family had a more formidable enemy in their crosshairs.
Sharron Angle is holding him accountable and will stand up against the radical Homosexual Agenda.
Unlike Harry Reid who wants to ram through:

*** The Gay Bill of Special Rights forcing schools and churches to hire and prevent them from firing open homosexuals. Men dressed as women will have the “right” to share bathrooms with young girls and those who disagree will face lawsuits, even prosecution; to,

*** The repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act eliminating the legal protection we’ve established for those states that reject Homosexual “marriages” by codifying traditional marriage into law; to,

*** The Homosexual Classrooms Act creating pro-homosexual indoctrination classes designed to eradicate traditional values in the next generation of American students; to,

*** The repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell forcing our soldiers to share foxholes, bunks and even showers with open homosexuals. The U.S. military, once representative of the best in America will degrade into a social experiment of homosexual activism; to,

*** The Homosexual Adoption Bill will force private religious adoption agencies to allow homosexual “couples” to adopt young boys and girls into their homosexual “family.”

As you can see, Harry Reid is an enemy of traditional values.
You and I must hold him accountable.
Please call Harry Reid’s office at 702-388-**** now and demand he stand up for the family.
Let me know you do not support the Homosexual Agenda and refuse to support anyone who does.
Thanks for your time.
For the Family,

Eugene Delgaudio
President
Public Advocate of the United States

P.S. Harry Reid is an enemy of traditional values.
He has repeatedly and with malice voted against the family and has become nothing but a pet of the Homosexual Lobby.
Please call Harry Reid’s office at 702-388-**** now and demand he stand up for the family.
Let me know you do not support the Homosexual Agenda and refuse to support anyone who does.

Here's my reply!

Dear Eugene,

Your email amounts to nothing more than hateful fear-mongering. As Harry Reid lives in Nevada and is running for Senator of Nevada, I cannot vote one way or another. In argument to what you call the "radical homosexual agenda" and "homosxual lobby," you are very clearly preying upon the misunderstanding and misconceptions that people have with the LGBT community. You say that Family has never had a more-formidable enemy than Harry Reid, because he supports gay-rights, this implies that equal rights for gays and lesbians is against family values; nothing can be further from the truth. You say that Harry Reid wants to pass:

*** The Gay Bill of Special Rights forcing schools and churches to hire and prevent them from firing open homosexuals. Men dressed as women will have the “right” to share bathrooms with young girls and those who disagree will face lawsuits, even prosecution; This is a completely misconstrued argument; Public schools should be subject to equal employment laws which prohibit them from discriminating against homosexuals; however, churches and religious schools should be allowed to hire those individuals who prescribe to the same religious doctrine. The men dressed as women and using restrooms part is just made up fear mongering.

*** The Homosexual Classrooms Act creating pro-homosexual indoctrination classes designed to eradicate traditional values in the next generation of American students; This makes it sound as if the homosexuals are recruiting and forcing others to be gay. We need schools (public schools) to be a safe place for all students and to teach tolerance for those who are different from yourself. This doesn't eradicate traditional values in the next generation of American students. It eradicates bigotry and intolerance.

*** The repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell forcing our soldiers to share foxholes, bunks and even showers with open homosexuals. The U.S. military, once representative of the best in America will degrade into a social experiment of homosexual activism; Repealing DADT will make our miitary stronger, it will strengthen military cohesiveness, and allow soldiers to have a better understanding of the people they are teaming with. By eliminating DADT our military will be stronger, because we will not be discharging American's with valuable skills, such as the multitude of Arabic translators that have been discharged under the discriminatory policy. This will not "degrade our military into a social experiment," other world powers have open military policies and their militaries function quite well, France, Spain, and the UK are fine examples of how inclusive militaries can functional in normal capacity. The honor of openly serving your country should be a right afforded to all Americans!

*** The Homosexual Adoption Bill will force private religious adoption agencies to allow homosexual “couples” to adopt young boys and girls into their homosexual “family.” Religious agencies can do as they please, but public-funded social agencies should be able to place children with gay and lesbian adoptive parents. With the amount of young boys and girls who just need a family to love them, how can we in good conscience prevent that from happening? Studies have shown that children of homosexual parents are just as well-adjusted as children of heterosexual parents. Children need parents who care about them, who love them, and who have their best interests in mind.

This is not a radical agenda, this is a desire for a better, stronger, more inclusive America. This is not an agenda to eliminate family values and indoctrinate others, this is the need to eliminate bigotry and eradicate intolerance.

Please stop your intolerant messages.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,

Jonathan S. Serret

It gets better!

Recently, we have lost quite a few individuals to suicide as a result of bullying and harassment. This has brought to light what has been a big problem for many years; bullying. Teasing and taunting crush a person’s self-esteem and reinforce self-doubt.  The recent deaths of several teenagers are indicative of the negative association of being gay.  These kids were merely being human and exploring their own feelings; they were shamed and taunted for it, and ultimately they took their own lives.  This is completely unacceptable. We have lost far too many people at their own hands, and need to prevent this senseless act. These suicides are united by the common thread that the teenagers were gay or were perceived to be gay, but it isn’t just the LGBT kids who are being bullied. There are kids who are teased because they are overweight, because their families don’t have the money that others do, because they are a different ethnicity, or have a different accent.  There are a whole host of reasons why people get bullied and harassed; to those who do the teasing it seems funny, but it isn’t. We can’t afford to keep losing innocent lives to suicide. If you are being harassed, tell someone who you trust.  If your friends are being picked on, do something…stand up for them; doing nothing is almost as bad as doing the teasing yourself. If you are being teased for being gay, whether you are or not, and you are thinking of suicide… talk to somebody; a friend, a parent, a principal, or call the Trevor Project lifeline at 866-4-U Trevor (866-488-7386) there are always people who care.  If you are considering suicide for any other reason, call 800-273-Talk (800-273-8255).  These hotlines are anonymous and free.  Please don’t let the negativity get you down. I remember what it was like to be picked on and teased; it is a constant nightmare.  But hang in there. The world needs you. It gets better!

Operation Iraqi Freedom, Current Problems, and Future Goals

Today, as Americans, we can celebrate that combat missions in Iraq have ceased. Operation Iraqi Freedom is complete. However, there are still the looming effects of the Afghan war and the economic crisis here at home. President Obama ought to be congratulated for honoring his commitment to bring the troops from Iraq back home. After seven and a half years of fighting a war that was waged on false pretenses and falsified evidence, we can bring our brave men and women home and re-evaluate our resources. Countless brave Americans served their country, some for cause they didn’t agree with, and thousands of them have lost their lives. We can only hope that those thousands of Americans did not perish in vain and that the newly formed Iraqi government will be united in their quest for an Iraq that is free of tyranny and oppression.
Now we turn our military attention fully on Afghanistan, which should have been the focus all along. We need to be able to devote our military resources to ensure the safety of our troops on the ground in Afghanistan. While the necessity of being at war in Afghanistan is debatable, the necessity of protecting our men and women in uniform is not. Hopefully, one year from now, we will be able to declare the combat missions complete in Afghanistan and will be able to focus on the problems facing us here at home.
Our government is being divided by partisan politics. We need to find bipartisan solutions that reach across the aisle and work for the benefit of all Americans. For too long, our politicians have lined their pockets and campaign coffers with the money of special interest groups and lobbyists in an effort to keep their jobs and maintain their often-extravagant lifestyles. With the anti-incumbent attitude sweeping across America it is time for a changing of the guard. We need new Representatives and Senators who understand that they work for their constituents and need to do right by the citizens they serve. We need independent voices to fight for the good of the American people.
The economy isn’t recovering as quickly as many had anticipated. Although we are not in a recession any longer, millions of Americans are still unable to find work and get back on their feet. Families across the United States are still struggling to keep a roof over their heads, and many are losing that fight. We need for private industry to start hiring so that more people can get back to work. As the unemployment rate drops, consumer confidence will rise and people will start spending again; hopefully we can get our economy back in full swing by 2012. America has faced economic adversity before, and has come back; we will do it again!

It is this never-ending desire to succeed, our dedication to always do better, and our unwavering fortitude that will drive us forward.

We will overcome these obstacles and will celebrate a prosperous, renewed American spirit.

Random thoughts of recent activity!

Divisive politics in Washington are coming to a head. As each day passes, the right and left are beginning to look like Dumb and Dumber.
The President has only been in office for a little more than a year, yet some people have condemned him to failure. It takes time for substantial change to take place; it doesn’t happen overnight. I still have high hopes for President Obama, but I think he has bitten off way more than he can chew. The clock is ticking…

Perhaps the midterm elections will be a wake up call for both parties. The legislators need to stop being divisive and need to start working together to work toward a better, brighter America. People are hurting; American’s are struggling now, more than ever.

We need to figure out how to turn things around without inflating the already massive deficit. It is my generation and the generation after that will be saddled with the bill for this recovery and all of the fiscal irresponsibility that led to it. We need to exercise restraint when it comes to government spending. If we need to pass legislation, we need to make sure the costs will be covered. However, a bill that will help countless Americans across the country by extending the unemployment benefits is hardly the bill to stop. In an ideal world, we wouldn’t have to extend unemployment benefits, but we are still facing record unemployment rates. Senator Bunning might have been trying to prove a point, but he chose the wrong piece of legislation to use as a tool.
The healthcare debate is still going forward, but realistically, “How far can it go?”

If Congress submits the bill for an up or down vote, it will lose. They need to postpone the debate a little bit and redraft the bill using more of the ideas from the GOP. We desperately need an overhaul of the healthcare system, but we need to do it the right way.
Small businesses need more of a boost. We need to give some more tax breaks and incentives to small companies. This is where additional jobs will come from. There are many people who have good ideas for new businesses, and the banks are just not lending money. Maybe we should have let them all fail when we had the chance. We bailed them out to keep them afloat and now they are turning a blind eye to the people who need their help to get started. Shame!
Another thing that has really irked me as of late… The way that our Veterans are being treated. Secretary Shinseki needs to start rolling out a plan to take better care of our soldiers. Regardless of how you feel about war, these brave men and women deserve better. Our soldiers give their all and risk their lives, sometimes they even lose them, to defend our freedom, defend liberty, and ensure our prosperity. We send them off to the most hostile regions and we send them to assist in relief efforts around the world. Instead of being treated like heroes when they return, they are treated as a burden. We need to provide our men and women in uniform with better healthcare and support until they can assimilate to being back at home. There are not many things that are more heartbreaking and gut-wrenching than seeing our veterans homeless and cast aside.
Also on the subject of soldiers and veterans; Fred Phelps.

Fred Phelps is the lowest of the low. I believe in free-speech, but this SOB ought to be tarred and feathered. As an American, Fred Phelps has every right to believe what he wants and protest for whatever cause he believes. If he doesn’t believe in war; fine. If he doesn’t approve of homosexuality; fine. If he doesn’t believe in abortion; fine. Whatever the cause, he should be allowed to protest; except at funerals, especially those of our servicemen and women. This low-life, good for nothing, sack of flesh, pickets and protests at the funerals of soldiers who give their lives, with picket signs that read, “God hates Soldiers.” “God hates Fags.” And “Thank god for maimed soldiers.”

This man has absolutely no moral conscience. Our men and women in uniform deserve better; their families deserve better. How insensitive to the grief of a mourning family could you be? Fred Phelps is a cult-leading, hate-mongerer.

State of the Union Response

This evening, President Obama delivered his first State of the Union speech. The carefully crafted speech lasted for more than an hour and was delivered very eloquently. President Obama outlined his ambitious short-term goals for the year ahead, and described some long-term goals for the remainder of his term as well.
Jobs…Jobs…Jobs…

Thank you Mr. President. After a year of terrible recession and horrific job losses, I am glad to see that tackling the unemployment rate is taking a higher priority this year. Our economy has faced massive job losses; we have more than 10% national unemployment and a vast amount of people who could be considered under-employed. I understand that there are many problems facing our nation, but getting more Americans back to work needs to be at the fore-front of our plans. If the House and Senate could pass a jobs bill that would be signed into law, we could start to offer assistance to small businesses and begin to revitalize our work-force. As much as it pains me to say it, because it will lead to more government interference; if the banks won’t lend to small businesses, then the government must. There is absolutely no reason why the banks shouldn’t be lending. We kept the banks afloat by lending them our hard-earned tax dollars, and now they need to do the same for the American business owner. Small businesses are the backbone of our country and we need to cultivate growth in the small business sector to reduce unemployment and ensure our long-term prosperity. Spending another $30B is not the most ideal scenario when you already have a deficit over trillions, but if it can boost job growth, it must be done. The tax-credits are great incentives for small businesses; especially those which create “jobs today, building the infrastructure of tomorrow.” Investments in our domestic infrastructure are long-term payoffs that create jobs in the short-term. These are the “shovel-ready” jobs that should have been started with the Recovery and Re-investment Act. Some of these projects got under way quickly, but there were not enough of them. We need action now to take control of the unemployment situation. I was glad to hear the President speak about creating more jobs in the clean energy sector. We can put people to work and figure out how to protect our Earth from further deterioration; sounds like a win-win to me.

“The best anti-poverty system is a world-class education”

Yes… Being able to learn, broaden your horizons, and hone your skills is essential to being successful. Education is key to providing people with a way to better there situations. We should invest more into our community colleges. Increasing Pell Grants is a fantastic way to ensure that many more young people will be able to afford to get the education they desire. Learning is not only for the elite. Nobody should ever go broke because they wanted to better themselves. Yes, part of being a college student means being poor, but it should never lead to a lifetime of financial ruin. Setting student loan repayment at 10% of the graduates’ salary is a phenomenal idea. Forgiving student debt after 20 years (10 years if the graduate goes to work in the public sector) is a good concept, but who absorbs that loss after the allotted time expires? Can the government afford to risk these losses? The up and coming generation of students are the life blood of our country; we need to ensure that enough people come up the ranks to replace the older generations as they move up and out of our work force. Investing in our students will benefit the country as a whole in the log-run.

Health insurance reform might be going on the back-burner for a little bit, but should not be forgotten. The right to have quality health coverage is universal, and all citizen’s should be afforded that right regardless of their financial background or economic status.

It is imperative that we wrap up the wars that we are engaged in. The Iraqi government is taking more control over their recovery and re-building and soon we will withdraw all of our troops from Iraq. Hopefully the troop surge in Afghanistan will work quickly and provide the Afghan forces with enough training to take over so we can draw down our American military presence in their country as well. Once we get Iraq and Afghanistan on their own feet, we can focus all of our energy and resources on rebuilding our country and taking better care of our citizens.

Out and Proud…

Speaking of the United Stated military… The President formally asked Congress to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. It is about time. There is no reason why our brave gay men and women cannot serve their country openly in the United States military. We have lost so many valuable service personnel because of this policy. We have lost countless Arabic translators, which could be instrumental in wrapping up the wars in the Middle East. We should have the utmost respect for our brave men and women who defend our freedom, ensure our liberty, and uphold our ideals; regardless of their sexual orientation. This would be a big step for the LGBT community and would be a welcome change is discriminatory policy.

Fiscal Conservancy and a Budget

Finally, the President acknowledged that he understands we need to cut back on expenses. President Obama stated that we needed to spend more to get out of the recession and prevent a complete collapse of our banking system, and now that the markets have stabilized, we can begin to rein in our spending. Freezing government discretionary spending for three years beginning in 2011 is a great idea. This will give us the opportunity to create a budget and live within our means as a nation. We can shrink our sky-rocketing deficit and create more confidence within our domestic industries. We will finally be able to save some money and begin to repay China. Reducing our national debt will mean that we can have a smaller government, which can interfere less in the lives of our American citizens. Americans all over our great nation are doing more with less and tightening their belts; our government needs to do the same. The government needs to start living by the same sacrifices they are asking us to make.

We can achieve these goals. I deeply admire the President’s willingness to take on these problems head-on. The time for talk; however, is over. We need action and this administration needs to take the proper steps to begin the process of recovery. Our legislators will have to get past the Partisan Politics as Usual mentality and get down to work on compromises that are in the best interests of their constituents. We elected these leaders to their positions so they could serve the best interests of our citizens. If our elected leaders continue to fail, we must vote them out of office and put our collective foot down. Regardless of party affiliation, we do not need career politicians looking out for their own interests and for those of lobbyists; we need leaders who can look out for us, leaders who pay attention to the issues facing everyday Americans. The call for bipartisanship has been made and needs to be accepted if we are to progress any further.

Like the President mentioned in his address, we do not need to uphold Republican values or Democratic values; we need to uphold our American Values.

New year... New priorities?

Sorry for the lack of recent blog posts, but what a time to jump right back in.
President Obama has a whole heap of things on his plate right now. The massive disaster in Haiti is now at the top of everyone's mind. It is hard to think about healthcare bills and tarp funds while there are so many people in Haiti who are absolutely devastated. Projected deaths are in the hundreds of thousands and there is widespread destruction. My deepest most heartfelt sympathies are with the Haitian people. The United States has a great team of people responding to this disaster including diplomats and foreign service agents... Not to mention Secretary of State Clinton. No doubt the carnage in Haiti left in the wake of the massive 7.0 earthquake is weighing heavily on the President, but while the relief effort continues, we must continue on our recovery here at home as well. Our economy seems to be on the rebound; unemployment is still an issue, but as a lagging indicator we should see some relief soon. The banks are making enough money that they are getting back to the business of paying out huge bonuses, and our government is now considering taxing them more to cover the taxpayers costs on those TARP loans they received to avoid failure. In addtion to the economic issues here at home, we are still involved in two wars. Iraq is winding down and we have pulled out our combat troops. If all goes according to planj which, in the Middle East is a crap-shoot, we can withdraw all of our troops this year. We currently have our military might centered on Afghanistan trying to help the new re-elected Karzai government defeat the Taliban resurgence. Not to be left out, Yemeni Sheikhs are threatening Jihad against us if we send troops over to help the government in Yemen to stop the rise of Al-Qaida. Oh yeah...there is still North Korea and Iran.
The Federal Court in Los Angeles is now hearing testimony in the gay marriage trial which it seems is destined for the Supreme Court. We have a lot of tasks to tackle, and we need to avoid the partisan politics to get them done.
